Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our products, services, and Connecticut firearms regulations.

Do I need a permit to buy a gun in Connecticut?
Yes. Connecticut requires a valid permit or certificate to purchase firearms. For handguns, you need a CT Pistol Permit. For long guns (rifles and shotguns), you need a CT Long Gun Eligibility Certificate or a Pistol Permit. Bravo Defense offers pistol permit classes to help you get started with the process.
How do FFL transfers work?
When you buy a firearm online from another dealer, federal law requires it to be shipped to a licensed FFL near you. Contact us first so we can send our FFL copy to the seller. They ship the firearm to Bravo Defense, and you pick it up after completing the ATF Form 4473 and passing a NICS background check at our store. See our FFL Transfers page for the full process.
What is Cerakote and how much does it cost?
Cerakote is a ceramic-based coating applied to firearms that provides excellent protection against corrosion, chemicals, and wear. It comes in hundreds of colors and can be applied in solid, two-tone, or custom camouflage patterns. Pricing varies based on the firearm type and complexity. Visit our Cerakote page or call us for a free quote.
Where is Bravo Defense located?
We are located at 1900 Mt Vernon Rd, Southington, CT 06489. Our hours are Monday through Friday 5PM-7PM, Saturday 9AM-5PM, and Sunday 10AM-3PM. Our online store is available 24 hours. Get directions and contact info.
Do you build custom AR-15s?
Yes, custom AR-15 and AR-10 builds are one of our specialties. We build from the ground up to your exact specifications - you choose every component from receivers to barrel to trigger to optics. Each build is assembled with proper torque specs, headspaced, and test-fired. Learn more on our Gunsmithing & Custom Builds page.
How long does a custom build take?
Most custom builds are completed within 2-4 weeks, depending on parts availability. If all components are in stock, some builds can be turned around faster. We will give you a timeline estimate when you place your order.
What gunsmithing services do you offer?
We offer trigger jobs, barrel threading, sight installation, action work, stippling, pin and weld, CT compliance modifications, general repairs, and full restorations. We work on AR-15s, AR-10s, AK platforms, bolt-action rifles, shotguns, revolvers, and semi-automatic pistols. See our full gunsmithing services list.
Can I buy ammunition without a permit in Connecticut?
No. Connecticut law requires a valid CT Pistol Permit, Long Gun Eligibility Certificate, or Ammunition Certificate to purchase ammunition. You must present your permit or certificate at the time of purchase.
Do you offer pistol permit classes?
Yes, we offer NRA-certified pistol permit courses that meet all Connecticut requirements. Our classes cover firearm safety, Connecticut firearms law, and include range qualification. Contact us to check upcoming class dates and availability.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), and debit cards. We also accept payment for online orders through our secure checkout. Note: we do not currently accept personal checks.
Can I ship a firearm directly to Bravo Defense?
If you are a licensed FFL dealer, you can ship firearms directly to us. Private individuals must use a licensed FFL to ship firearms - you cannot ship them directly via USPS, UPS, or FedEx without an FFL. Contact us and we will coordinate with your current FFL or help you find one.
Do you buy or trade firearms?
We do consider purchasing and trading firearms on a case-by-case basis. Bring your firearm to our store for evaluation, or call us to discuss what you have. All transactions are processed through our A&D (Acquisition & Disposition) bound book per ATF requirements.
What is your return policy?
Due to the nature of firearms, all sales are final. Defective items may be returned or exchanged with manufacturer authorization. Non-firearm accessories may be returned within 14 days in unused condition with original packaging. Please review our Sales Policies for full details.
